The Moose Encounter

Last night, Blair and I and a couple of our friends were driving back from Prince George when we saw a moose right on the side of the road. Blair slowed down, but kept moving as he thought the moose was heading off into the bushes. He blinked his lights, hoping to warn the oncoming cars about the animal. It was dark and the moose was very hard to see. Just as we were about to pass the moose, I saw it look like it was going to head out right in front of us, so I told Blair and he stopped in time, but the moose ran right out in front of us and was hit dead on by a huge semi truck coming the other way in the other lane. I don't think the truck saw it coming at all as he said the lights were in his vision. The impact of the truck hitting the moose sent a huge pile of blood and guts over our entire car!! At first we thought it was muddy slush from the truck, but when we saw it later, we realized it was blood and pieces of the moose! We went to go see if the driver of the truck was ok and we saw that he had actually dragged the moose about 100 meters down the road. There was absolutely nothing left of that moose! We helped the trucker fix the front of his truck, which was dented; but he was not hurt so that was good. We were completely grossed out at the sight of our car, but we were also very aware of how close we came to getting into a serious wreck. A couple seconds difference and we would have hit that moose, which could have had serious consequences. Also, the moose could have been thrown into our car if the truck had hit it at a different angle. We are very thankful for God's protection over us last night. We went immediately to a car wash and cleaned the remains of the moose off our car. I think every once in a while it is good to be reminded of where our true home is and that it may be our time to go at any moment.
